These are some of the things that will forever remind me of Colin… Hedgehogs, but his love of animals generally. I remember his excitement when we were all in Tasmania together (he and Wendy and Ric and I) and I spotted a wombat off in the distance. We stood and watched it for quite a while. We eventually realised that it was being followed by a baby one! We also sat one day and watched some pademelons until Wendy told us it was time for dinner! He also loved watching the birds in his bird boxes of course. His love of cheese, but also his slicing of both cheese and bread - an engineering task if ever there was one. An even thickness was required or you were in trouble! His love of jazz and particularly the big band variety. Sailing and for me, particularly his golf putter tiller extension (a Colin invention/adaptation/engineered solution) His love of gliding and flying - of being in the air. I remember a day when we stood and watched some hang gliders and we both looked longingly at them. Alex and I later went to the same spot and did tandem flights from there. And his love of smoky, peaty Islay whiskies. Colin, Ric and Andy and I all loved a strongly peaty Islay whisky and for Colin’s 80th birthday Ric and I conspired to take him to Islay with Wendy (our wonderful sober driver). What a great trip! I’ll miss him a lot...
